Exhibition supports the new generation of fashion designers: this series celebrates ICHIYO and her pieces.

Tell us more about your INSPIRATIONS. What inspires you and your creative process?

In exploring my inspirations and the driving forces behind my creative process, I delve into a world where femininity is celebrated, cinema serves as a muse, and the rich tapestry of fashion history intertwines. The existence of a muse propels each collection—often a character from a film that captivates me with its depth and complexity. It is through these characters that I explore the multifaceted beauty of womanhood, drawing inspiration from their attitudes, behaviors, and activities.

My design process is deeply rooted in celebrating the female form. I engage in a constant dialogue with shape and silhouette, aiming to craft pieces that both reveal and conceal . This delicate balance is inspired by the allure of lingerie and the concept of undressing, which plays a significant role in my creative philosophy. It's about capturing the inherent beauty of nudity and translating that into garments that speak to the tantalizing idea of what lies beneath.
Finding details and finissings, I immerse myself in image research, exploring fashion history, vintage magazines, traditional attire, and movie costumes. When an interesting detail catches my eye, I experiment with it hands-on, searching for the perfect placement on the silhouette. Through this approach, I aim to craft designs that resonate with the essence of femininity, learning from the historical technique , and always with a nod to the inherent beauty and strength of modern women.

At the heart of my design ethos is a commitment to understanding and honoring the female body. This is achieved through a meticulous process of fitting and personal trial, where I ensure that comfort and inclusivity are not just ideals but realities embedded in every piece I create. This principle underscores my belief that elegance and comfort should be accessible to all women, making it a cornerstone of my design process.

Ultimately, my creative journey is one of introspection and discovery, a dialogue between my identity and the inspirations that move me. By merging the essence of my muses with my personal narrative, I strive to create designs that are more than garments—they are extensions of personality and emotion. Each piece invites the wearer on a journey of self-discovery and expression, embodying the transformative power of clothing to empower and celebrate the unique beauty of every woman who finds a piece of herself within my designs.

Could you describe your brand in 3 WORDS ?

Femininity, Elegance, Provocative

How would you describe your CRAFTSMANSHIP ?

My craftsmanship is the heart of my design process. I personally undertake every step, from drawing and draping to patterning, toiling, and sewing the prototypes. It might be hard for some to picture a designer behind a sewing machine or tracing patterns on a cutting table, but that's me, Ichiyo, deeply involved in every aspect of creation. My immense love for my creations infuses every detail and every stitch with care.

This dedication to craftsmanship has been with me ever since I started making clothes at the age of 10, I need to highlight my experience at Schiaparelli where I had the chance to work for 3 years and a half years. There, I was privileged to witness and partake in the atelier's "savoir-faire," working alongside master pattern makers . That experience ignited my desire to be a designer who crafts magic with her own hands, deepening my appreciation for the art of draping, pattern making, sewing, and embroidery.

I have immense respect for the "savoir-faire" of fashion craftsmanship. I am committed to keep learning but also to further developing my skills. Craftsmanship, to me, is what turns design dreams into reality. I believe in the strength of my designs with knowing all these skills and the depth of my dedication to the craft.

How do you feel about the NEXT GENERATION of young designers ?

I'm genuinely optimistic about the next generation of young designers. They seem to possess a deep commitment to sustainability, inclusivity, and innovation, which is precisely what the fashion industry needs to move forward. Their fresh perspectives and willingness to challenge conventional norms are inspiring, and I believe they hold the key to transforming fashion into a more environmentally responsible and socially conscious domain.
